EDUCATION–MY LIFE MATTERS (CIC) INDEPENDENT SCHOOL AND ALTERNATIVE PROVISION (EMLM) Type of Provision Education – My Life Matters is a Lewisham based Independent School and Alternative Provision with objective to reconnect, reengage and empower the learner who could possibly be at risk of becoming the subject of permanent exclusion. We primarily work with learners in Key Stage 3 & 4. We are keenly aware of the challenges that can and do impact on today’s young people. We understand that where learners become permanently excluded from school they can and do run the risk of ‘Going Missing in Education’. Through its provision Education-My Life Matters can offer to learners that final chance at realizing their learning potential through the medium of an alternative provision alongside support and partnership to achieve one of three possible outcomes i.e. 1. Supporting reintegration back into mainstream education 2. Supporting transition to a specialist school or college 3. Supporting the completion of Year 11 and transition to a suitable KS5 provision or apprenticeship. Education-My Life Matters support schools to support their learners. Our provision works in partnership with the placement’s base school, other relevant external agencies and parents/carers so as to secure the best possible outcome for the learner. First and Sixth Day Exclusions In the event of a learner receiving a 1st or 6th day exclusion, Education-My Life Matters is well positioned to provide swift and easy access to full time education, as is required by law. Any such placements can begin with as little as 24 hours’ notice subject to the satisfactory completion of an assessment of learner’s risk to the provision. Alternatively, learners referred or directed to Education – My Life Matters may come as a result of a range of ongoing issues. Primarily our learners come to us as a result of the following pathways: • Permanent exclusion • Non – attendance i.e. school refusers • Ongoing and continued non-compliance with school expectations Our Offer At Education-My Life Matters, in conjunction with the National Curriculum, we deliver bespoke provisions tailored to meet the needs of the individual learner. We offer, where necessary and appropriate, a differentiated planning approach designed to re-engage and motivate the disengaged learner. We ensure opportunities are manifest through the use of creative approaches, so as to achieve for the learner successful learning outcomes. Through the targeted deployment of high-quality teachers, skilled mentors and supportive LSAs, we craft an environment that is supportive of the development of learner independent approaches to learning. To encourage the learner’s ability to work as part of a team, we provide collaborative and small group learning opportunities and experiences. So as to encourage independence we encourage learners to take responsibility for their own learning and progression, thereby engagement in self-assessment activities is very much paramount to the learning culture of the Education-My Life Matters provision. The Assistant Strategic Lead is the senior manager with responsibility for outcome for our learners, behaviour and academic. The Assistant Strategic Lead works with the Virtual School, Schools, parents/carers and liaises with and coordinates the input of external professional. Our staff engage in continuous professional development programmes in order to best positioned to aid and support the implementation of a consistent whole school approach to meeting the needs of our learners. We have a reflective and evaluative approach to the development of learning, teaching and behaviour improvement targets and plans, which encourages teaching staff to develop effective pedagogical approaches to working with learners with high levels of challenging characteristics. London Art Classes is based in a lovely loft studio in an old Victorian propeller factory in Deptford, South London. This is a great environment in which to develop your drawing and painting - a working artist's studio with all the art materials you could need - while you are here, the studio is yours. Whether you’re a complete beginner or working on your portfolio for art college, developing your art in an active professional studio makes a world of difference. Immersing yourself in a creative environment - the traditional atelier system - really helps you be more creative. We're located in a group of studios in the Deptford / New Cross area, one of London’s most creative neighbourhoods, full of artists’ studios, cutting-edge galleries and art students - we're a stones throw from Goldsmith's College - here's what they say about the local area. Only a nine minute train journey from Cannon Street, Depford and New Cross have been described by The New York Times as "a hub of creativity" and The Guardian as “a landmark on London’s art map”. The South London Art Map run brilliant tours of Depford galleries. We take part in a yearly Open Studio event, along with 100 other artists, in the building, as part of The Deptford X Festival. It's a great opportunity to get inspiration from other artists, find out more about the techniques which artists use to produce their work and see what is happening at the cutting edge of the art world.
