London Art Classes is based in a lovely loft studio in an old Victorian propeller factory in Deptford, South London. This is a great environment in which to develop your drawing and painting - a working artist's studio with all the art materials you could need - while you are here, the studio is yours.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or working on your portfolio for art college, developing your art in an active professional studio makes a world of difference. Immersing yourself in a creative environment - the traditional atelier system - really helps you be more creative.
We're located in a group of studios in the Deptford / New Cross area, one of London’s most creative neighbourhoods, full of artists’ studios, cutting-edge galleries and art students - we're a stones throw from Goldsmith's College - here's what they say about the local area.
Only a nine minute train journey from Cannon Street, Depford and New Cross have been described by The New York Times as "a hub of creativity" and The Guardian as “a landmark on London’s art map”.
The South London Art Map run brilliant tours of Depford galleries.
We take part in a yearly Open Studio event, along with 100 other artists, in the building, as part of The Deptford X Festival. It's a great opportunity to get inspiration from other artists, find out more about the techniques which artists use to produce their work and see what is happening at the cutting edge of the art world.
London is my nice country I hope I am London come I am drawing and painting artist my drawing is nice please like my drawing
Had a great time with Nick for our very first life drawing class. Was a bit nervous as neither of us have done any drawing but Nick put us at ease with lots of great insightful conversation and guided work.
I started taking Portfolio Preparation classes with Nick in September 2017 and came to his studio quite lost as to how to go about it and what kind of work universities were looking for.
The studio is a wonderful place to be able to work in and Nick was very patient with me throughout the whole art school application process. I struggled when it came to the fundamentals of art, not having been taught that well in school and he guided me through each of them and also brought art history into the mix of those classes as well. As soon as I would come in he would get me to start drawing or painting something straight away and he has an amazing library of resources which helped trigger my conceptual mind when I was stuck for ideas.
Nick says on his website that he has a 100% success rate when it comes to helping get his students into their choice of art school and that is very much true. With his help, constant encouragement, and a fantastic reference he wrote for me, I managed to get into my first choice Uni!
Thank you so much Nick for your time, patience and for all your help getting me through this!
I've been going to Nick's Art classes since November and I'm delighted to have found such a fantastic studio! Nick provides a comfortable and inspired space where you can feel at ease to practice or experiment with paint and painting materials. Nicks guidance is great however don't expect him to hold your hand during lessons! You must be ready to throw yourself into painting! I would recommend this to anyone!
PS: the lunch on Saturdays is great!
